The Ninja Sock is made from "Hanji" which was invented over 1,600 years ago and literally means "the paper of Korea." It is made from the fibrous bark of the mulberry tree. Historically Koreans used Hanji for it's paper, books, painting canvases and other products because of its durability and strength. An ancient Korean proverb describes Hanji as: "Paper (Hanji) lasts a thousand years and textiles last 500 years." There are preserved Korean writings that over 1,000 years old made out of Hanji. It is rare however to find paper made in the West that is older than 400 years.
Hanji paper was famous throughout the Orient. A well-known Chinese poet in the 11th century stated that he would publish his works on Hanji paper in order to preserve his writings. Hanji was one of Korea's top exports during that time period. Although used as long-lasting paper for over a thousand years, it has been used for a variety of products, including clothing.

The bark is very strong and when immersed in water for one year, it can withstand and decomposition. It is cut into very fine strips and twisted to make the paper yarn used for our fabric. The natural fibers are wide which makes it breathable, lighter than cotton, prevents bacteria build-up, and allows air and light to come through that material. Because of Hani's natural composition, it is healthy, eco-friendly fabric that is effective for people with skin allergies or sensitive skin. Hanji has been reinvented in recent years, with premium denim made from Hanji launching at a number of fashion shows across the world. Hanji has been used to make clothing, window paper, books, painting canvases, bowls, lanterns, jars, bridal gifts, sewing and wedding gift boxes for over a thousand years! Since Hanji is stronger than cloth, it was varnished with lacquer to be used as armor for it's soldiers!
